Slip Sliding Away!

I put these on my Facebook, so I feel like I already blogged about it, but alas I haven't.

In August, a plan was devised by dear sweet London to have a slip and slide party. So it was up to her dad to figure out how! We took a page out of the hillbillie's handbook and this is what we came up with.

We bought thick plastic and took a plastic pipe and drilled holes into it. We then used a pump to pump the water up from the dug out. It worked amazingly well!

London tried to convince Brigham he would love a ride down...

At first he loved the cuddle, then the water started spraying and getting him wet and he decided slip and slides were not for him!

We used dish soap to slick up the plastic to make you go faster. If you look in the water you can see some soap suds.

It was a crazy bumpy ride so you had to go on floaties.

Next year we need to improve some things. Even though we mowed the hill, it was late August with just stubble left so we got pokies through the plastic. We ended up popping everything we owned. They worked for a while but then a stick would get them. So in the spring we need to either dig it up until it is dirt or put plastic down when the grass is green and keep it soft. Our dream is to get discarded water slides and dig them into the hill and have that for our slip and slide. Sean's dad is working on it and he can find anything!

The other problem is that in late August the water is getting stale. It was fine in the middle of the pond but the edges were very slimy. We want to build a dock and have it ready for spring so we can avoid the edges.

We discovered the pond was full of hundreds of frogs. I love frogs so I thought it was great. Some of the guys brought some up and put them down the slip and slide! After the first few sliders they all moved away so it isn't like they were on your head or down your swimming suit ( I wouldn't have liked them that much!). The water is flowing so we didn't seem to have leaches...which would have been a bummer!

All in all it sure was fun. I can't wait until next year to try it again. Make the improvements and have it a bit smoother! It is really long! So plan on coming to slide next year and toboggan this winter with ice skating thrown in!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my little farm and hillbilly life!
