Roofing the Chicken Coop!

We ripped down the inside of the chicken coop because of water damage and we are replacing the roof and part of the wall.

The shingles were in very bad shape! The inside of the coop is really dirty, but Dad has been scraping and vacuuming. The roof inside needs to be replaced because of the water leaking in. Looks like a fun family home evening, hey!? We were all up there working and it got done in no time.

We used the tractor and bucket to collect all the shingles! It is so much better than having to move them with a wheel barrow! I love our tractor! I still haven't been able to drive it...Sean says he will teach me....despite my time spent in the ditch this year. lol My job was to take out all the nails and take off all these small bits of shingles left.

Dad using his Wolf to bring a bigger ladder over.

Here it is all done! Sean, sweeping off the roof. Now it is ready for tin!

Look at my Dad! He is amazing! I can't believe he is up on the roof doing all this work in his very late 70's. He is so helpful and fun to have around. I am so glad he moved here. I am not too sure how glad he is... especially when he is so sore the next morning.

His hip has been so bad he could barely get around and couldn't sit for long periods of time. A week ago or so, he got a shot in his hip of steroids and it is amazing. The pain has all gone away. I am so happy to see him without so much pain!

Here is the after picture of the roof! I picked beautiful green. What do you think? We still need to do some painting and add a bit more but it is getting closer. We get our chicks on March 21st. 50 little bundles of joy! I can't wait to kiss each little beak. The next week, we get our little ducks...12 of them. I am really excited to meet them. I am turning out to be a real farm girl! Never had farm animals or a tractor before and now I will get both!

as for the ducks.. let me just warn you. my aunt had ducks. one duck i remember vividly: bill the duck. he was mean and attacked us all the time. bad duck.

I feel amazed and perplexed when I see all of the renovations because I would not know the first thing about what to do. Recruit me. Lane can watch the kids and I'll help. ;) Whenever I need a smile, I think of your epic hair touching the ceiling of the car and it brings me joy. I never even saw it, the image is just there for me. haha

Good job on getting new roofing for the coop. Green is definitely a good color for that place too. Well, your chickens are certainly going to be happy with the new roof over them, that's for sure!
